Get The Curse w/ Peter Van Hoesen

Always a pleasure to find out about a new mix from our main man.

After his 'emotional' Modyfier mix, Peter Van Hoesen now did a 2-hour mix to show what's in his recordbag: techno, techno, techno,...!

Roger 23 - live at Redevice Invites

"At all times I’m one of the audience. I dance when I play records and unsexy music doesn’t makes me dance. Certain trends implement a tough skepticism in me. I think it’s very important to show your origins and roots, to show differences. (...) It doesn’t necessarily make a DJ-set better if you only present the latest shit."

spot on Roger,
I'm a big fan of his style since a Meakusma party some time back: excellent track selection and dance moves

54 Kolaktiv Podcast

photo for this podcast by: Max Pinckers

54 Kolaktiv (read seinkat), an evergrowing group of elastic & eclectic people basicly out of Brussels, asked to do a tiny podcast for them.
Every member does his own special trick, and all together they throw parties, expo's, music, painting, photography, sculpting, repairing go-carts,...

More info and dates on their site or forum: 54 KOLAKTIV

The mix unites a selection of tracks, not too conceptual, going in all directions without realising what crossroad we're at.

In words of 54: "A refreshing mix by Adriaan Vankeerbergen. Starting with ambient then pushing it forward to minimal techno and beyond."

Intelecto Tecno

Claro Intelecto and friend Andy Stott delivered the coolest RA liveset podact ever, with the never-to-be-released 'Dead D10'...
Here Claro/Mark offers some straight up four-to-the-floor beats in a recent live-recording (through Bunker Podcast), filled with what I hope is new soon-to-be-released material.

Timecasting

Time To Express kicks off their monthly podcastseries today, which could be seen as 'the other side of T2X - expect the unexpected'.

We get for this first 'cast a (long awaited for me) mix from Eavesdropper, who recently played an amazing liveshow at Resonance in Ghent, released his Lichtung album on Line as Yves De Mey and keeps on going hard, in terms of techno, with PVH in the studio as Sendai. As one would expect, the mix is filled with the most refinded soundscapes, stringworks, clicks&cuts and his older drum&bass influences, perfectly merged to a whole. Listening a second time now, well, this is really really good !

Get on it at the TimeCast page.
and finally someone thought on going further in music + technology, as it's an enhanced podcast, showing more info and skipping possibilities on your iPod (I guess, since I haven't got one).
Also looking forward to Sensu's contribution, an artist who truly knows what the meaning is to perform on stage.

Shades Amaze

Interesting...mixes by talented people:

- Jean-Baptiste - bptchk!009 mix (tracklist here)
this is what anybody downloading his mix should know about JB:
"I really discovered music when I was 17 years old through an industrial radio show in Strasbourg in 1992 called Autodafé on RBS 91.9 FM. Buying records started with this new univers for me I was listening and recording every monday night..."

he describes the mix as:
"When I do a mix I often try to make it sounds like a thing you can listen to for one hour while having dinner with friends, working on computer or resting…"

works excellent for me !
Download and have dinner with friends

- Eric Cloutier - mnml ssgs mx22
the mnml ssgs, those men who use the word 'distinctive' at least twice a week, managed to have Eric Cloutier do a mix for them. No tracklist available untill now (if only i would know a few tracks...), here's the music:

- Steffi's Mixmag.info mix

The Techno

This man, Isomer Transition, was included twice in the promo-mixes of Peter Van Hoesen, worth a listen I thought.
The Shadowlands EP is what we were all expecting to find in the Hardwax store at that time. Boomkat describes it as "one of the most perversely heavy, dub-infused techno twelves we've heard in an age, dense with a weighty low-end undercarriage and incredibly spacious layers of percussion that seem to come from a producer able enough to unearth the meeting point between the work of Surgeon, Basic Channel and Monolake and do so without ever sounding overly familiar."

I heard a recording from a liveset, and well, that was too mnml. For Percussion Lab, he did another recording, and my speaker cones couldn't handle it:

Function, yes we all know his productions on Sandwell District, they're all about stripped Sahko-like techno.
At the Bunker Podcast, he shows all his influences in the best dj-set he's ever done.

Another Bunker Podcast, is the Leisure Muffin one. Inventor of the meepyfloop (?) genre like it's described. It certainly is something fresh, but you have the inclination to change from 33 to 45.

The Ambient

Ezekiel Honig caught my attention with his latest album Scattered Practices, in 2006. Ever since, his music is rustling through the speakers every now and then.

L'usine, brought to me with the remix Apparat did for him. Listen carefully to this sonic clarity, and beware of the torn-up female vocals on top of the chimes in the middle:

The Dub

Basic Channel will never be far away, and here we're getting very close to it: two rather unknown artists who are really worth a listen, and two other very well known:

Ganik, a Croatian DJ/producer showing his skills in what I think is a live-show:

Gillsans: discovered his blog and mixes years ago, and at the beginning he was doing "dub-techno" mixes, afterwards he fell in the arms of minimal, without losing the essence.

ELEVATION

I recently recorded some 50 records of my collection in the mix, in two parts.
The first mix is not yet to be revealed, the second includes 16 tracks: the more dub side of techno.
Starts with swirling synthetic drones accompagnied by a very clear sense of rhythm... towards the end it's all sub driven 'techno' to expect, and a special closing...

Dance boy, dance -

+ Special thanks to the Mnml Ssgs guys to post it HERE

Norman Nodge

As if we weren't spoiled enough last months with huge releases of the Berghain stable, Norman Nodge did the second 'mnml ssgs podcast'
Highlight is for me around the 6th and 7th track, 'delivering a thick, raw and pulsating drive. This mix is no-nonsense, classic techno, already gaining industry acclaim and an explosive introduction to Nodge's mixing skills.

Assignment 3: The sound of Archipel

For those looking for some nice samples to play around, Archipel gives a package away with over more than 3 hours of tools. Every artist participating had to make one ambient and one beat-containing tool.
Some very interesting pieces of clicks. Matheo Murphy and Zhao do the trick for me: decent and monotone sounds.

Other artists who contributed: Alert, Anonym, Appendics Shuffle, Attentat, Bleupulp, Cesare vs Disorder, Christian Dittmann, Dr.Nojoke, Drunkat, Dualism, Frank Bretschneider, Gyges, Hrdvision, Jesse Voltaire, Kane Roth, Kate Simko, Keinzweiter, Kexie, Layborn, Le Cantin, Liebe Ist Cool, Luka & Lazo, Marc Neyen, Michel Lloyd, Novalex, Offthesky, Pheek, Plaster, Royale, Sebastian Herre, Someone Else, Somfay, Stefny, Sul.a, Ten and Tracer, Tom Ellis, Suz, and Zentex.
